my mother is complaining about generosity
So the bill for my getting my ingrown toenail removed came the other day.  I had my last check up today, and my mother wrote a check for me (I’m paying her back after I get a few more paychecks) to bring into them.  After the appointment, my doctor waived the copay, as he’s done on every check up I’ve had, and then told the receptionist to cut the total bill in half.  I thought...

#11 - I feel stuck
I’ve felt this way for a while, and I’m increasingly becoming more aware of it.  My hours at Target suck, and I’m having a lot of trouble actually saving any money.  My motivation to write and/or design has been super lacking, and whenever I get any, it gets wasted with sleep or video games.  I hang out with my friends almost every day, and we do the same thing over and over...

Nightwatcher - 9/22/09*
“What the fuck are you doing, man?”     The sudden yell broke the night’s silence, as well as my concentration.  I shrugged it off.  Probably just my neighbors fighting again.  Soon their baby will be crying.     “What the fuck were you doing in my backyard?” Oh. Not the unhappy couple after all.     I lifted myself up from my bed and peered through the curtains...

Nightwatcher - author's note
During my junior year of college, I had many sleepless nights.  Most of that time was spent staring out my window until dawn, and occasionally I would write about what I saw. I have decided to share them here as a sequence of Super Short Stories entitled, “Nightwatcher” (the significance of that title shall be revealed shortly). I also want to add to them, because there are only,...

I've got a job interview today
Last night I stayed up late working on a gift card design for my employer’s map store. The night before that, I spent a few hours coming up with ideas for a flyer for one of my freelance clients.  About half an hour ago I drove to FedEx Kinkos to print out some portfolio stuff for my interview, as well as the gift card designs, and when I got there I realized I forgot my flash drive. I feel...

#10 - Televisions
For some reason I’m really bad at figuring televisions out.  Whenever I go over to someone’s house and they have more than one more remote, I get completely confused and nothing I try will turn the darn thing on. Or if it’s already on and I try to adjust the volume or something, and there are three different choices of remotes.  I just don’t understand. And then I hand the...

You can make Skittles Vodka
did-you-kno: Instructions 1. Separate your skittles into colours 2. Mix 60 skittles and approx. 180mL vodka in empty water bottles 3. Shake the bottles well and leave them overnight. 4. Lots of white residue will be left, filter this out using a coffee filter or similar. Depending how viscous it is you may have to repeat this step. 5. Chill (in freezer) and serve. The picture was taken...

#9 - Cleaning My Room
So occasionally I let my room get messy.  Really messy.  And it will stay like this for anywhere between one week to a month, but eventually I will finally clean it because I start to realize I’m missing things and I’m tripping over boxes and I have nowhere to put my stuff anymore. Today is that first day of cleaning.  And I say “first” because I just can’t get it...

2012
A long time ago, someone told me that whatever you’re doing on the first day of the New Year represents what you’ll be doing for the rest of that year. At the time, I didn’t think much into it, because every year I’m spending the day celebrating with friends, sleeping, and then eating with family.  These are things I do all the time; it isn’t anything special. Last...
